One kind of work. A lot of miles.

Lakes Transmission Service has been fixing transmissions in Forest Lake since the year on the gauge. That is a lot of transmissions, brakes and belts, and a lot of Forest Lake drivers who already know where the shop is.

What we fix

Four things, done carefully.

We keep the list short on purpose. These are the jobs we do every day.

  1. 01 / 04

    Transmission Services

Repair, rebuilds and maintenance for automatic and manual transmissions. We also grind and resurface flywheels. If it shifts hard, slips or leaks, bring it in and we will tell you plainly what it needs.

  2. 02 / 04

    Diagnostics

Before anything gets ordered, we find out what is actually wrong. A warning light or a strange noise is a symptom, and we would rather check twice than sell you a part you do not need.

  3. 03 / 04

    Brakes & Brake Pads

Brake inspections, pad replacement and brake repair. If your pedal feels soft, the car pulls, or you hear grinding when you stop, it is worth a look sooner rather than later.

  4. 04 / 04

    Belt Replacement & Repair

Timing belts and drive belts for all makes and models. A worn timing belt can take an engine with it when it goes, so replacing it on time is one of the cheapest repairs you will ever make.

  1. “I cannot recommend Jake and Lakes Transmission enough. Jake was honest and incredibly knowledgeable. He saved me thousands by recommending affordable parts instead of pushing the most expensive option, and even spent extra hours troubleshooting and helping me without charging additional labor. If you want someone who genuinely cares and stands behind their work, this is the place to go.”

  2. “Jake at Lakes transmission was outrageously helpful in every aspect and expeditious helping to get my avalanche 6L80 rebuilt. Any other shop would tell you to pound sand if you were looking for real technical guidance. 10/10 would recommend.”

  3. “I've had Lakes take care of several different transmissions for me. They always do a phenomenal job at a very fair price. Thursday morning this week I had my car towed to them. They opened for the day as it was already in route. I called, and they got right to it.”

The shop

A small shop that picks up the phone.

There is no call center here. When you phone the shop, someone at the front counter answers, and that person can tell you what we think is going on and what it will take to fix it.

We work on manual and automatic transmissions, foreign and domestic. Some jobs are a quick adjustment. Some are a full rebuild. Either way you hear the options before we start, including the less expensive ones.

If your car is not driving, have it towed to us on 6th Ave SW and give us a call so we know it is coming.

Visit or call

Bring it in, or call first.

Not sure what is wrong yet? That is fine. Call, describe what the car is doing, and we will tell you whether it can wait.
